Take Root, one of Oakland University’s professional dance companies, will present Berlin and Other Obscure Dreams, at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 6 and 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 7 in Varner Recital Hall on the OU campus.

Berlin and Other Obscure Dreams was inspired by the concept of dreams and their many facets,” said Associate Professor of Dance Ali Woerner, who co-founded Take Root in 2013 with fellow Associate Professor of Dance Thayer Jonutz.

“Dreams that we see in our sleep but forget and become distant the longer we are awake. Dreams that offer a clear path or map of what we should do in the future. Dreams of what we imagine ourselves to be or imagine what we could become. Dreams where we assume one distinct truth but in actuality find layers upon layers of possibilities. For Berlin and Obscure Dreams we took a journey into our own dreams and what we discovered created this concert.”

The March 7 performance will begin with a special presentation by Take Root’s Dance for Parkinson’s Disease Program and Arts Education Program.

“The Dance for Parkinson’s Disease and Arts Education Programs have created a dance based on the open-ended sentence, ‘In my dreams I…,” Woerner said. “Each dancer was asked how they see themselves in their dreams. For example, ‘In my dreams I am a scientist,’ ‘In my dreams I can fly.’ They put a gesture to their answer and, as a group, we created the dance which will open the matinee performance on March 7.”

Tickets are $14 general and $8 for students. To purchase tickets, visit www.etix.com.
