Fall 2016 Non-Credit Workshops

Tue Oct 4, 2016 at 08:00 AM

For educators seeking to learn more about current topics affecting the needs of the K-12 classroom, the Office of Outreach & Program Services (OPS) is sponsoring several non-credit workshops for Fall 2016. These workshops are known for their high take away value and for the practical knowledge and hands-on classroom experience of our presenters. Educators can earn State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs) for attending these non-credit workshops.

  • Mindfulness for Educators Workshop – Saturday, November 5, 2016
Mindfulness is being taught in schools across the country, fueled by teachers who are working to help students learn to drop into stillness, focus attention, and learn a type of kindness that promotes harmony in the classroom. In this workshop, attendees will learn stress reduction techniques, practice mindfulness, and develop lessons in kindness curriculum to use with your students.  For more information, please visit the workshop website.
  • Restorative Practices Workshop - Wednesday, December 7 and Thursday, December 8, 2016
Restorative Practices are used to proactively build a classroom culture based on community and mutual responsibility, and to provide a safe space for students to share their thinking in a respectful, meaningful way. This 2-day workshop consists of a Day 1 introduction to restorative practices – the theory and uses of it. Day 2 is an introduction to restorative circles, a very flexible practice that can be put to use immediately in order to build a sense of belonging to a school and/or classroom community. For more information, please visit the workshop website.

In 2017, OPS plans to sponsor a variety of non-credit workshops including: Enhancing Instruction with Technology, Mindfulness for Educators, Mindfulness Part II with Self-Compassion, Mindfulness for School Leaders, Educating African American Males and Restorative Practices. For information regarding the workshops offerings, please visit the OPS Workshops website.
