Thank you for your interest in the Oakland University Practical Nurse and Certified Nurse Assistant Continuing Education programs.
The Oakland University Practical Nurse Program is a rigorous and challenging vocational training program which requires a high level of student commitment and mastery of curriculum content in many academic areas. The program prepares students through academic and clinical training to provide supervised direct nursing care in a variety of health care settings.
Our entire faculty is committed to providing students with a quality nursing education while upholding the school’s vision statement which is identified in the acronym PRIDE: professionalism, respect, integrity, diversity, and excellence. Upon successful completion of the practical nurse program requirements, students will have completed 1304 contact hours, earning a non-credit Certificate of Completion, and will be eligible to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN).
Successful completion of this examination qualifies the graduate for licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and the ability to practice in the State of Michigan.
Beginning in August, students and families wishing to pay Oakland University student account charges by credit/debit card will make payments through a third-party processor. The processor accepts VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Discover, and will add a 2.75% (minimum $3) convenience charge to the transaction. This charge is assessed by the processor, not Oakland University, and will not appear on your student account nor be covered by financial aid. Revenue from the charge goes directly to the processor to cover the cost of processing the credit/debit card.
Credit/debit cards will no longer be accepted in person at the Cashier’s Office.
To avoid the convenience charge, consider one of OU’s other payment methods: ACH (online checking or savings), check, cash or peerTransfer.
Acceptance into the program is determined by a first-come first-served basis. You must submit all materials described below and meet the criteria as stated in order to be eligible for possible acceptance. Please note pre-requisite courses should be complete or in the final semester prior to applying to the Practical Nurse program. The School of Nursing & Continuing Education will notify the student on an individual basis once he/she is eligible to take the TEAS V test.
