Supported Software

Raptivity

The software, Raptivity, allows you to design, customize and create online learning interactions. For example, games, simulations and interactive diagrams. The interactions can be embedded into Power Point, Moodle and SoftChalk author ware.

Softchalk

SoftChalk is a user-friendly authoring software that allows you to design and create online modules including interactive content for your students. You can personalize content for your course by adding audio, images, games, video and interactive assessments. The software is compatible with Mac and PC and is ADA and VPAT compliant. SoftChalk also provides the option of tracking students with a Score Center component. Modules are compatible with Moodle and the grade book.

Power Point

Power Point is a complete presentation package. The software includes a user-friendly interface that provides the designer with all of the commands necessary to create a professional presentation.

The finished presentation includes slides the user creates. The slides can either be projected or displayed on a large presentation screen or a personal computer. Users can also narrate slides and print slides with notes pages directly from the program.

Audacity

Audacity is a free, open-source application available for recording and editing audio. You can use Audacity to create and edit audio files, save the files as MP3 files, and either place the files into Moodle and SoftChalk as audio files or utilize them as a podcast series.

In order to use Audacity on your computer, you may also need to download a free LAME encoder.

Camtasia

Camtasia is a screen recording and editing software. With Camtasia for the Mac, you can create short videos of your computer screen with narration. You can also record and narrate your Power Point slides within a selected area of your screen. In Camtasia Studio 7 for the PC, you can create short videos of screen shots with narration. You can also narrate Power Point slides from within Power Point using a Power Point add-in, which is not available in Power Point for the Mac.

The narrated videos can be embedded into a web page, a SoftChalk online module or into Moodle. The videos can also be edited in Camtasia and saved in a compatible file format such as MP4, or saved as a QuickTime video. The videos can also be saved in a file format for use with mobile learning devices.

Jing

Jing is a free, open-source application that allows you to capture an image on your computer screen and narrate and record a short video (up to 5 minutes of screen recording) of your computer screen. After recording, you can store and share the images and video via the web on Jing free storage website (screencast.com), where you can store up to 2 GB of information for free.

Moodle

Moodle is an online course management system used on the Oakland University campus. In Moodle, faculty can post various types of online learning materials and use Moodle to communicate with their students. Moodle can be used to:

  • Facilitate chats, wikis and forums
  • Conduct assessments
  • Display interactive online resources, for example, games, videos and audio files
  • Submit homework assignments
  • Use grade book functionality
