Date Issued:

Last Update:

Scope and Applicability:

All students enrolled in the School of Medicine

Standard Practice Guideline:

Sub-internships are a one-month M4 year experience in medicine, providing students with greater supervised responsibility for patient care in one of five areas: Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics, or Surgery. During the sub-internship, students gain an increased awareness of the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes that physicians strive to acquire and maintain throughout their careers.

All sub-internships for core credit are restricted to fourth year medical students and must be completed at OUWB School of Medicine. Students enrolled in a sub-internship must work the exact schedule as their Beaumont Health System team; holidays, vacation days, etc. are not observed during sub-internships.

Time off for Residency Interviews and Other Absences:
For information on absences during sub-internships please see the Attendance and Class Participation Guidelines.
