Sarah Lerchenfeldt

Prior to joining OUWB School of Medicine, Dr. Lerchenfeldt was a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in the Bone Marrow Transplant department at Karmanos Cancer Center in Detroit. There, she worked closely with a multidisciplinary team to optimize patient care by providing medication therapy evaluations and recommendations to patients, doctors, and other healthcare professionals on a daily basis. Responsibilities included evaluating medications for drug interactions, ensuring appropriate dosing, assessing all reported adverse drug reactions, and counseling patients on chemotherapy, immunosuppression therapy, and anticoagulation therapy. Dr. Lerchenfeldt was actively involved with the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, as well as the Antimicrobial Subcommittee. She was a preceptor for Wayne State University and University of Michigan pharmacy students, Detroit Medical Center PGY1 pharmacy residents, and Karmanos Cancer Center PGY2 pharmacy residents, where she provided guidance on pharmacy and patient-related issues and engaged students and residents in active learning, including patient evaluations and pharmacokinetic dosing.

Dr. Lerchenfeldt was an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Wayne State University Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences where she presented didactic lectures for the oncology/hematology module. She was also a Pharmacotherapeutic Problem Solving (PPS) Facilitator and Case Writer, in which she facilitated PPS classroom team-based problem-solving sessions.

Dr. Lerchenfeldt earned her Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) at Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy in Ada, Ohio. She completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Harper University Hospital and her PGY2 Oncology Pharmacy Residency at Karmanos Cancer Center in Detroit.

She is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association (HOPA), Southeast Michigan Society of Health-System Pharmacists (SMSHP) and the American College of Clinical Pharmacology (ACCP).

Her practice interests include the prevention and management of infection in immunocompromised hosts, as well as the prevention and management of graft-versus-host-disease in stem cell transplant patients.
