We are so pleased you will be joining the OUWB Class of 2021.  

Below is a list of "checklist" items to help you transition into medical school.  Note that we have included contact information should you have any questions.  Please check back often as we will be adding new "to do" items throughout the coming weeks.

Fingerprinting ApplicationIt is a requirement that all students have a background check on file with OUWB School of Medicine. To fulfill this requirement, fingerprinting will be done in O'Dowd Hall (on campus) during the first week of classes, but in order to participate, you must first complete a Michigan Workforce Background Check Consent and Disclosure Form. Please complete the form legibly in blue or black ink by July 1. Federal Student Loans & Financial Aid Requirements

If you choose to borrow student loans, you must accept Direct Unsubsidized loans in SAIL. Big Sib - Little Sib ProgramThe M2s are eager to meet you and offer their words of wisdom!  They have created a "Big Sib" program that will pair each M1 with an M2.  The program is completely voluntary.  If you would like more information, or if you are interested in the program, please follow this link.  The form must be submitted  by July 21.

New Student Questionnaire

Each year, we ask our incoming students to complete the New Student Questionnaire as a way for us to learn more about you - as individuals, and as a class. At the White Coat Ceremony, we also use these responses introduce the Class of 2021 to our broader school community and celebrate your collective accomplishments and talents.  Please fill out the New Student Questionnaire by Friday, July 21. (Note: You will need to use your OU NetID to log into our MedSync platform whereto form is located; and on your first log-in to MedSync, you may be asked to complete your profile before continuing to the Questionnaire.)

Online Orientation 

The Online Orientation module will familiarize you with a few of the more important policies and procedures in place at OUWB and the broader medical community before you arrive on campus. Consisting of four sections, this required online component should take approximately 30-60 minutes to complete. You can access the module here. To complete the certification form at the end of each section, you will need to have activated you Oakland University email account and be logged in. Additionally, please be aware of these technical specifications: The SoftChalk software is not supported in versions of Internet Explorer earlier than IE9.  You will need to turn off your pop-up blocker, and you must have Java, the QuickTime plug-in, Shockwave Flash, and Adobe Reader installed.

Orientation Week Activities

Orientation Week is first and foremost an academic experience.  During this first week of classes, we will begin each day as early as 8:00 AM and end our campus sessions around 5:00 PM. However, included in that academic schedule will be a few opportunities for you to more deeply experience our community, including a "Sundaes on Sunday" open house, and an off-site Team Challenge activity. (You have also received separate information about Wednesday evening's Faculty Dinners.) More information about "Sundaes on Sunday," the Team Challenge, and other offerings is available in the online RSVP form, which must be completed by Friday, July 21. (Note: You will need to use your OU NetID to log into our MedSync platform where you may be asked to complete your profile before continuing to the RSVP form).

Faculty Dinner RSVPYour Orientation Week is filled with lots of exciting activities, including Faculty Dinner Night! OUWB faculty members will be hosting dinner for you and up to three of your classmates at their home or restaurant of choice on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 7:00 PM.  This is a great opportunity to make a connection with OUWB faculty! To sign up, please complete the Faculty Dinner Registration Form by July 21. White Coat Ceremony RSVPBy now, you may have received your White Coat Ceremony invitation in the mail, sent to the address we have on file. Please make sure to RSVP via the link provided on the paper invitation by Friday, July 21. The Ceremony is on Friday, August 11 at the Troy Marriott Hotel.  The reception opens the vent promptly at 1:00 PM followed by the ceremony at 2:00 PM, with formal pictures following the program.

Final TranscriptsYour final undergraduate and/or graduate transcripts with the degree posted must be received by August 1. Please note we only require your transcripts from degree granting institutions. Health Insurance Enrollment As a medical student, your are required to have health insurance during your time in medical school. All students are offered a Core HMO health plan by OUWB, and the cost is included in your tuition. Your participation in the health insurance plan is mandatory, unless you can provide proof of comparable group coverage (through your parents, spouse/partner, etc.). You can also add additional coverage for family members and dependents at your own cost.  Please submit a Proof of Health Insurance Form (to accept or decline coverage) by Thursday, August 10. If you will be accepting OUWB insurance, please also submit an Enrollment Form. Forms can be sent directly to Katie Stotts, in the Center for Medical Student Services, at kstotts@oakland.edu, or via fax at (248) 370-2771. ImmunizationsBy now, you should have received a letter about the required immunizations that need to be completed prior to matriculation. Note that some immunization series can take up to six months to complete. If you have not started the process, contact your family physician. Students that are not current with immunizations may be excluded from clinical activities. Visit the immunization website for additional information or to download the immunization form. AAMC Matriculating Student QuestionnaireThe AAMC asks all new medical students to complete a matriculating student questionnaire (MSQ). You should have received an email from AAMC in early June. Parent & Family Orientation Activities

The OUWB Parent & Family Program is pleased to invite your loved ones to meet our Dean and learn more about the OUWB experience at the following events: Thursday, August 10: The Parent & Family Program invites family members of the OUWB Class of 2021 to our "OUWB - The Next Four Years" event. Families are welcome to arrive beginning at 4:30 PM to view posters. At 5:30 PM, Dr. Robert Folberg, Founding Dean, will speak about OUWB and the journey of an OUWB medical student.  Optional tours with Admissions Ambassadors will take place after Dr. Folberg's presentation. Light refreshments and hors d'oeuvres will be available. This event will take place in O'Dowd Hall, Rooms 203 & 204. Friday, August 11: The Parent & Family Program also invites family members to join us for Family Friday. This event, which includes a continental breakfast, starts with our Introduction to Team-Based Learning (TBL) for Families, an interactive activity that allows family members to experience the TBL approach used in the OUWB curriculum. This will be followed by a presentation and discussion with our Financial Services staff. The continental breakfast begins at 8:00 AM in O'Dowd Hall, Room 203 with the event beginning at 8:30 AM.
