About Macomb-OU INCubator

The Macomb-OU INCubator's mission is to provide comprehensive development and support services to startup and emerging businesses, create and support an entrepreneurial climate, commercialize new technologies, expand and cultivate a defense corridor, attract investment and create new jobs in Southeastern Michigan. Mac-OU INC aims to be the regional hub for accelerating economic growth in the targeted industries of defense, homeland security, advanced manufacturing and technology.

An incredible advantage to budding companies, a SmartZone provides a distinct geographical location where technology-based firms, entrepreneurs and researchers locate in close proximity to all of the community assets that assist in their endeavors. The facility is ready to host a number of companies with space for any size company.

Our Partner Organizations

The Macomb-OU INCubator is located within the Technology Advancement SmartZone of Sterling Heights and is a partnership between the City of Sterling Heights, Macomb County and Oakland University. The incubator is housed in the Velocity building, an initiative and collaboration center that is a catalyst for launching, developing, retaining and attracting commercial enterprise within its target industries.


Defense & Homeland Security

Nearly 600 established companies in Macomb County are currently performing defense contract business, accounting for 63% of Michigan’s total defense work. From 2000 to 2010, defense was a more than $26 billion dollar industry for the county. Known as the “Arsenal of Defense,” Macomb County has the workforce, experience, knowledge and resources to strive in a competitive industry.

Advanced Manufacturing

Over 60% of Michigan’s advanced manufacturing employment is located in the 8 county Southeast Michigan region. With an existing manufacturing base and capabilities in Macomb County, advanced manufacturing is a great fit for the INCubator.
