Hsiang-Hua Melanie Chang began her teaching career in 1995.  She joined Oakland University as a visiting faculty member in 2008 and started her tenure-track appointment in 2009.  She teaches Chinese language, literature, linguistics, culture, and civilization.  She is also a faculty member of International Studies and the coordinator of study abroad to China Foreign Affairs University. 

Her recent work experience includes serving as the coordinator/instructor of Chinese Outreach to middle and high schools at Michigan State University, and teaching graduate-level Chinese Linguistics and Chinese Grammar courses at Wayne State University.  She has been regularly selected to serve as Reader and Table Leader for the Advanced Placement (AP) Chinese Exams.  Her principle research interest is first and second language acquisition of syntax and semantics.  Much of her work concentrates on issues about aspect, existential sentences, and nominal phrases.  She enjoys teaching and studying different languages and cultures.
