Overview   |    View a sample Plan of Study
This Master of Education degree focuses on the broader concepts of exceptionality (learning, instruction and development) and an in-depth preparation for one or two areas of exceptionality. Exploration of theory and research and advanced application in instruction and assessment with selected populations are integrated throughout the program. It is designed to provide students advanced training and expertise in a chosen area of concentration: specific learning disability, emotional impairment, or autism spectrum disorder. The program is currently offered at several on-ground locations including Macomb, Oakland Schools and on Oakland University's main campus, as well as online.
Practicum/Student Teaching   |   View Practicum Information
In partial fulfillment of the requirements to earn this credential, the Michigan Department of Education requires that candidates complete a minimum of 180 clock hours in a supervised practicum experience teaching students with autism spectrum disorders.  The practicum is offered as the final experience required for K-12 certification in ASD.  The specific nature of the experience will be individually determined at the time of approval of the practicum request.
