Susan Bowyer

Dr. Susan M Bowyer, PhD is the Scientific Director of the Neuromagnetism laboratory at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, MI, where she uses her physics and brain imaging skills to assist Neurologists and Neurosurgeons plan brain surgeries for patients with epilepsy or tumors. She is an experienced researcher with extensive training and expertise in Magnetoencephalography (MEG), Electroencephalography (EEG), Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) applications and image analysis. Her research has covered numerous brain disorders such as, migraine, epilepsy, autism, language dysfunction, tinnitus, panic and schizophrenia. In collaboration with multiple organizations and differing disciplines, Susan has conducted analytical investigations, designed projects, and published over 100 articles.  She was selected one of the “Women in Physics” by the American Physical Society in 2002, and is a past Board Member and Treasurer for both the American Clinical MEG Society and the International Society for the Advancement of Clinical MEG.  Susan currently serves as a Board Member of the American Tinnitus Association.

Dr Bowyer was elected to the District 3 seat on the Rochester Hills City Council in 2016. In that role, she works to build strong communities, support the youth, the elderly and protect Rochester Hills parks. She served as board president of Cumberland Hills, one of Rochester Hills’ largest subdivisions, for over seven years. She is an OU Graduate, and for 15 years she has shared her knowledge and passion for understanding brain functions, with Oakland University Graduate and Undergraduate students she mentors at Henry Ford Hospital.
