Hispanic Celebration Month at Oakland University aligns with a national recognition of the culture, contributions and heritage of Hispanic Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

The Michigan SOGI Education Conference, sponsored by the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) Initiative of Oakland University's School of Education and Human Services, seeks to create more supportive and inclusive educational environments for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning and intersex people.

The Presidential Diversity Award recognizes a faculty member who promotes diversity inclusion on campus through a $500 gift and acknowledgement at a Board of Trustees meeting.

The Phyllis Law Googasian Award honors and recognizes women who have contributed to the advancement of women at Oakland University and beyond through distinguished leadership, scholarship, advocacy, mentoring, program development or other activities.

The International Students and Scholars Office provides cross cultural programs such as the International Welcome Reception to celebrate Oakland University’s diverse population and to provide all members of the university community opportunities to learn about the different cultures here on campus.

Pride-Week

Pride week is held every April and is open to all students, staff and faculty. Pride Week is hosted to celebrate OU’s diversity in sexual orientation and gender identity with events that raise awareness, promote education, and foster a sense of community.
