Oakland University Employee Wellness strives to support the enhancement and maintenance of Oakland University faculty and staff’s quality of life. In collaboration with campus and community resources, our goal is to provide you with valuable educational programs, resources, and activities that support your personal goals to live a healthy lifestyle. 

Wellness programming is open to all Oakland University employees to participate.

Making Meditation a Habit
Thursdays - January 14 through February 25

Did you know that meditation can relieve stress and make you feel happier, more calm, and peaceful? Medical studies have shown that meditation can improve health, increase energy, and help you function at your optimum. For meditation to work, just like exercise, you have to do it regularly.

Join us for this 7-week program where you'll learn a simple yet powerful 15-minute meditation and be supported in keeping up a regular practice. We'll meet weekly to meditate together and look at benefits and challenges of fitting meditation into daily life. Pre-registration is available here.

Maintain Don't Gain
Monday, November 23 - Friday, January 8

Join this holiday program to assist you in your efforts to stay active and to navigate you through those holiday meals. This program offers all who sign up an opportunity to be pre-assessed for blood pressure, weight, BMI and body fat through a BIA handheld machine prior to Thanksgiving. Weekly emails will be sent to all who sign up, with tips on how to avoid over indulging at holiday gatherings and be well through the season. Following the start of the Winter 2016 semester, all participants may participate in a post assessment to check if they maintained their pre-assessment values. 

Walk with Campus Leaders

Are you looking to be more active during your lunch break? Join us for a casual walk to socialize with other individuals on campus and recharge for the rest of the day. WWCL will return in the spring with a selection of new and returning campus leaders to walk with at lunch time. This is time to discuss hobbies, family, and vacations – no work talk allowed. Dates for Spring are coming soon! All walks will begin at 12:15 pm from the Elliot Tower or indoors on the track in the Recreation Center (depending on the weather).

Be Well
Employee Wellness Incentive Program

The goal of Be Well Points+ is to provide you with the opportunity to earn points through participating in wellness programs throughout the semester. Turn in your points toward an item of your choice that will motivate you to improve or maintain your healthy lifestyle. Be Well Points+ is an incentive program for all Oakland University employees. 

There are a number of ways to earn Be Well Points+ throughout the semester on Oakland University’s campus. If there is a wellness opportunity taking place, we encourage you to submit a BWP+ Program Points Request Form. If approved, the upcoming event you are planning to attend will be another opportunity for you to earn points towards incentives of your choice.

In order to get started with your Be Well Points+ Membership, simply fill out and submit a Registration Form.  Once submitted, your personalized online tracker will be created and shared with you.  You are then eligible to start recording and earning points!

Nutrition Consultation Cancellation Policy: Any employee wishing to cancel their appointment must do so within 48 hours of their scheduled appointment time.  Cancellations may be made by calling Kelsey Zuchowicz at 248.370.4511 or email at with no penalty.  Any persons making a cancellation less than 48 hours in advance will be prohibited from booking another nutrition consultation for 6 months past the date of their original appointment. 
**This policy is subject to change at any time by the Assistant Director of Programs or the Wellness Coordinator in Campus Recreation.
Employee Friendly Group Exercise Pass
Are you an OU Employee interested in taking Group Exercise classes at the Rec Center?  There is now a pass designed especially for employees to purchase that allows you to participate in certain Group Exercise classes at a lower out of pocket cost!

The Employee Friendly Pass can be purchased at any time (online or at the Rec Center), starting Thursday, September 3 for $18.  This pass is good for any classes marked with an "EF" on the schedule, unlimited, for the Fall 2015 semester.

New to Group Exercise and not sure what classes you will like?  No problem!  Visit us September 3 through September 13 for our "Try-Us-Out" week where you can attend as many classes as you would like at no cost, and no passes required.  There will be no classes held on Monday, September 7 (Labor Day), and passes will be required starting September 14.  For more information on the Employee Friendly Pass, please contact Stephanie at or call x.4968.

BWP+ Members: Earn one point for every class you attend!  You can also cash in your points (200) for an Unlimited Group Exercise Pass good for the entire Winter 2015 semester starting January 6th.

Do you have what it takes? Grab a punch card and take 35 GroupX classes between September 14 and December 4th to receive prizes and be entered in for a chance to win a grand prize! Simply drop-off your completed punch card at the box at the Welcome Center and we will be in touch with you following it. Similar to the GET REC*D Challenge, participants must get a punch card and have the GroupX Instructor punch their card AT THE END OF CLASS!

According to the American Diabetes Association, more than 5 million of the 20 million Americans who have diabetes have not yet been diagnosed with the disease. Even if you have “normal” blood sugar, you may be sitting on a time bomb which prevents you from losing weight and living a long healthy life. You will learn that unmanaged blood sugar, diabetes, and its complications are surpassing both cancer and heart disease as cause of death. Understand the risk factors associated with dysfunctional blood sugar management and recognize that the first line of defense against progression of this disease is a lifestyle modification program. Acquire information on proper diet and exercise and understand that they are a crucial part of achieving better health and relief from the ravages of diabetes.

Medical practitioners have long identified stress as a root cause of many of our modern ailments, from high blood pressure and gastrointestinal problems to anxiety and depression. With regular practice, meditation has been shown to relieve these problems. In the free 1-hour Isha Kriya meditation class, participants will learn a simple yet powerful 15-minute daily practice which offers enhanced feelings of peace, calm, and clarity. It is supportive to overall well-being and alleviates stress at its source. No previous meditation experience is necessary and it can be done seated in a chair. This meditation is being offered by Isha Foundation which is a non-profit, non-denominational, public service organization.
