Dennis Pawley

Dennis Pawley is the former Executive Vice President of Manufacturing for DaimlerChrysler in North America. He was responsible for more than 80,000 employees in 12 car and truck assembly plants, along with five manufacturing technical centers and 18 component stamping and power train plants in the United States and Canada. In addition, he had responsibility for power train and stamping operations in Mexico and was in charge of DaimlerChrysler joint venture manufacturing relationships abroad, principally in China and Austria. He also was responsible for all labor relations activities in North America and served as a member of the Corporate Executive Committee.

In April 2001, Pawley and partner, Andy Carlino, co-founded the Lean Learning Center, located in Novi, Mich. The center assists suppliers in the development of lean operating systems. Using more than 30 years of experience in automotive manufacturing labor relations, Pawley is an expert in planning and implementing operating systems that work to the benefit of stockholders, the company and workforce.

In addition, Pawley also owns an independent management consulting firm, Pawley Enterprises, LLC, which is located in Farmington Hills, Mich. He also was part owner and now serves as a consultant for Performance Learning, in Las Vegas, Nev.

DailmerChrysler Chairman Robert J. Eaton called Pawley “the ultimate manufacturing leader,” and went on to say “his ability to lead change is unparalleled in manufacturing today. His operating system has solidly taken hold in the DaimlerChrysler Corporation manufacturing environment. In addition, his progressive relationship with the United Auto Workers was visionary in its honesty and integrity. He will be missed.”

Prior to joining DaimlerChrysler, Pawley was a Vice President for Otis Group, United Technologies Corporation; Vice President for Manufacturing at Mazda Motor Corporation, USA; and held various automotive manufacturing management positions with General Motors Corp.

Born in Milan, Mich., Pawley maintains residence in the Detroit area and Las Vegas, Nev. He was a trustee of the Chrysler Institute of Engineering, the Chrysler Corporation Fund and Boys and Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan. He also served as a member of the Oakland University Foundation Board of Trustees. In September 2002, he was appointed to the Oakland University Board of Trustees by Governor John Engler. He also was recognized for his quality effort by being inducted in 1998 as a member of the Shingo Award Academy. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resource Development from Oakland University in 1987.  In February 2002, Pawley funded a $1 million endowment to the university for the establishment of the Pawley Lean Learning Institute.

He was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Guide Corporation, the largest North American provider of headlamps and signal lights to the Automotive Industry, January -December 2000.

Pawley joined the Board of Directors of Ross Control in 2001 and has served as Chairman of the Board since June 2009.

He was inducted in to the Manufacturing Hall of Fame in December 2010.
