Advising

All academic advising appointments and student questions are taking place via virtual or phone appointment, or email communication. All in-person meetings have been suspended until further notice and our office is closed.

Please know that the BIS advising team is still working hard and we are here to support you in anything that you might need. To make an appointment, please email bis@oakland.edu with your contact information and adviser's name.  You will receive a call back to schedule as soon as possible. For quick questions, you can email your adviser. If you do not know who your adviser is, you can find that information here. If you do not have an assigned adviser, email bis@oakland.edu.

We look forward to meeting your needs and seeing you soon online!

Have questions? Check out our FAQ document!

Preparing for your first appointment:

In order to make the most of your time during your appointment, you should watch the Intro to Integrative Studies Video to learn about the process. Come early to be on time! If you are more than 10 minutes late for your appointment, you will be asked to reschedule your appointment so we can better serve you. Bring any Transfer Equivalency Worksheets (TEWs) or degree evaluations that you may have.

Pre-Integrative Studies Students:

You should schedule a meeting with an adviser at least once per year to ensure that your coursework is relevant to your career-goals. Plan on having your application complete when you approach 80 completed credits. The application includes your online plan of study, completed rationale, and a meeting with a faculty mentor.

Some helpful reminders:

  1. Understand how university requirements apply to your academic records. Carefully read the catalog parts that apply to you, especially those that apply to General Education. Make sure classes you need to fulfill a requirement meet the catalog stipulations.
  2. Don't sign up for a class for which you have already received credit. This happens often to transfer students. Classes at another school often have different titles and usually have different numbers. Check your plan of study and Transfer Course Evaluator.

Current Majors:

You should continue to take your classes that have been approved on your Plan of Study. If you need to change a course in your Plan of Study, please fill out the Course Substitution Form. The semester before you intend to graduate, be sure to Apply to Graduate.
